The Independent Observer

Piercing stares from hollow eyes reveal your shallow soul
Long serving cohorts knowing your game
You bide your time until you can entrap another
Going for the jugular when it happens

Indifference and intolerance hide well behind your back
Calling them out like dogs of war
You set them loose on unsuspecting prey
Calling them off after they have had their fill

The Independent Observer

Time honoured practise has fine tuned your devilish skill
Starved of love elsewhere your chances of finding it here are slim
Perceived friends hide amongst actuals
Sadly, all are too few

Your purgatory ways are not the answer
Common decency and patience is what you need
Unlike your dogs of war these two will serve you well
But knowing you, Heaven knows!

To be continued...

Hi Swubird and no, I'm not talking about you. Just letting my imagination run away with me. It's good to see you and thank you heaps for the praise.

Take Care,
Peter

Hi Bob. This one is a bit dark and something that I wouldn't have the hide to say to anyone, face to face. But it has certainly crossed my mind on a few occasions.

Peter

Peter, beautiful imagery!!! It is hard for some people to change and only prayer will help. But they have to let the spirit in and that can be a tough nut to crack.

Hugs, JJ

Wow Peter! Very deep, dark and deadly! I'd like to read more...

Take care!

Hi JJ! You are so right with your comment and I couldn't have said it any better.

This post is also about trying my hand at expressing myself on a different level as I take in this new world called poetry.

Thank you and take care,
Peter

Hi The Muse! It is "Very deep, dark and deadly" indeed. As for more of this, I think it's better for me to express my dark side only now and then in order to remain on the bright side of life.

Peter

Hey Peter!

My Lord!! Who is this poor soul that raised in you such a tragic sentiment as pity?

By the way: beautiful eyes!!

This is a strong poem, mate!
I even felt like studying this person more (you know how much I like observing people); cause the person described sounds like a "victim collector", a back stabber...yikes!

Peter, if you know such a person: may God have mercy on you lol!

Loved it: well done!!

Cheers

P I T Y

How sad.

I have a thing for eyes myself. They are the window to the soul, you know.

Peter 13/06/08 9:06 AM

Hi Max! My poetry seems to be driven by a range of negative and positive experiences that I and others have gone through.

This one is not dedicated to just one person but a number I've met on the way.

Being completely new to poetry, I endeavour to learn from the best.

My friends at:
http://midnightwanderersociety.blogspot.com/

help me to do that. Clicking on the icon below the Aussie Flag will take you there as well.

As always, thank you heaps for your comment my friend.

Take Care,
Peter

Hi Moonshadow. The beautiful eyes of the independent observer belong to my son. It's a pity I don't get to see them more often, but we're working on that.

By the way, any updates in regards to your sister? Loved her artwork. The image reminds me of the work done by my sister-in-law.

Take Care,
Peter

Moonshadow 13/06/08 6:41 PM

You DID intend to spell out PITY with the first for letters of each verse didn't you?

Nothing new from my sister. I've tried calling the number she called from, but noone answers and there's no answering machine or service.

She said that she had more artwork for me too. Guess I'll just have to wait till she's ready to communicate.

Thanks for asking, though.

Max 14/06/08 2:45 AM

Peter,

"Being completely new to poetry, I endeavour to learn from the best" - well, but if the outcome is good it is because the seed of poetry was already in you (believe me, I studied poetry in school and I was never able to write poetry...it is not in me)! :D

Thanks for having shared this link with me, my friend; I will take a look at it :D!

My pleasure, mate :D!

Have a blessed weekend!
Cheers

Hi Moonshadow! Spot on! You and Max were the first to mention it by the way.

The poem didn't start off that way but the more I revised it, the more I wanted to add an extra message behind it to finish it off.

It must be very hard for you not knowing where your sister is but at least you know she is out there somewhere.

Obviously it would have been very hard for her to make contact after such a long time and I'm sure she will make further contact again.

But just to be on the safe side, I'll keep my fingers crossed so everything will turn out okay.

Take Care,
Peter

Hi Max! When I was at school, I thought poetry was only for sissies. Crikey! Haven't I learnt a thing or two since then.

Learning not to fear what others may say or think of you because of what you do or say is one of those important lessons in life.

Take Care,
Peter

Do you celebrate Father's Day down under? If so, Happy Belated Father's Day! If not, Happy Father's Day ANYWAY! : )

Peter 16/06/08 5:43 PM

Hi Moonshadow! You're going to get a giggle out of this one. About a week ago I hinted to my wife that Father's Day was coming up.

Thinking it was on the 15th June I got quite excited, as I love presents, big or small, and I didn't want to miss out.

Then it was explained to me by my better half that Father's Day Downunder will be happening on 7th of September 2008.

Well I lucked out there, so I will have to wait a bit!

So for anyone else that is as easily confused as me, here is a list so you don't.
