David and Goliath
Standing shoulder to shoulder, wide eyed warriors prepare to do battle with the Goliath that lies dormant not far from where they stand to attention in front of their two Generals.
With the war briefing not yet over and heads unturned, the combatant’s curious eyes suddenly snap right as devilish high pitched screams from nearby caverns draw their attention away from their masters and drain the colour from their faces in the process.
Barked orders quickly bring all eyes back to the battleground; a narrow, deep and steep sided ravine. Snaking down from high ground to low, it stretches as far as the eye can see and quickly fills with a deadly torrent.
Oh yes! The beast has been unleashed and awaits them all; ready and able to devour one by one or the entire battalion in one foul swoop.
Moving in single file, the warriors shuffle forward until they reach the point of no return. There they await the signal to march headlong into whitewater to test their metal against the foe that’s vanquished others like them.
Armed only with recent knowledge, helmets, lifelines from ashore, vests and stealthy bodies they’re optimistically prepared to take on David’s swiftwater Goliath.

The signals given, the race is on to stay alive! With state of mind all important, no military board will save them now. With limbs working furiously to stay atop of this giant, breaths taken whenever possible, any thought of staying on course shot to ribbons, eyes are constantly searching for any kind Eddy to rescue them from the abyss that awaits them.
The battle rages! First objective just ahead! Most make it, but a few are lost, as lifelines miss their targets! Picked up downstream they rejoin the others.
With the battle almost over, one last objective awaits them all. The final push will surpass all others as all and sundry will be needed to slay this widow maker.
This time around, jaw dropping chasms overflowing with ravenous spawn from this near beaten Goliath await the intrepid warriors to overpower, crush and send them all to Hades.
Knocked from pillar to post, bollard to bollard they make their way down to still bloody waters. Arriving battered and bruised but alive, they meet up with their Generals who stand firm upon dry land. Finally, thankfully, the beast is defeated! Victory is theirs!
As the slain Goliath lays motionless and bleeding on the ground, the last warrior to make it through gives thanks to his guardian angel and to his God for letting him and his comrades live to savour another day Downunder.

This story is based on a course I just (survived) completed.
Can you put a name to the course?
To be continued…

Wishing you and your family a Happy and Merry Christmas

Hi Peter,
Amazing image!! It is so expressive (I like the look on Goliath's eyes: he tells himself I want to kick your butt and yet he knows he's defeated). Nice choice :D!
Hmm, this is a difficult one..Pete...which course have you survived/completed? Military Medicine?
Let me know the answer, cause now I am eager to know :D!
Have a great weekend, mate!!
Ah by the way: I will be away for two weeks and a half...so I see you when I get back, ok? :D
Take care
Hey Peter, I love how your writings are so descriptive and can lead you to think one way but are actually another, which make it fun to read , you can pretend whatever you like, the sign of a good writer. Is it something to do with ICU or emergency training of some sort?
LOL Hey Peter I loved it!
Good for you! Do you have a sense of accomplishment from surviving the challenge?
David may have defeated Goliath but of course later on in his life David was an adulterer and murderer so don’t let it go to your head! LOL (another reason it is good we don’t get things right with God by trying to be “good” or religious” but instead by trusting Him!) LOL
Who is the art by?
Hi Max! I found a better one, but it wasn't a public domain image unfortunately. But still, this one is not bad and it suits the post right down to the ground.
As for the course, I'll let the cat out of the bag shortly! I'm such a tease!
Enjoy your trip now and don't get up to too much mischief!
Take Care,
Peter
Hi Bob! Knowing that you're flat out like a lizard drinking getting ready for your trip to China, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
You're a top bloke and thank you for the compliment.
As I said to Max, I'll let the cat out of the bag shortly!
Take Care,
Peter
Hi Livingsword! I know I wasn't going to write about my near death experience but I found a way to not embarrass myself too much, by putting up this post the way I have. But still, it's good that I can laugh about it now!
My sense of accomplishment is knowing that I'm still around to tell the story and that I'm only human after all!
Poor David! A hero one day and a villain the next.
I followed up on your comment by reading up on David, Bathsheba and Solomon. Their stories would make for a great day time soapie!
Now, could this be right? "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."
The painting is a public domain image sourced from Wiki Commons and the artist is Peter Paul Rubens.
Thank you for bringing this post to life!
Take Care,
Peter
Peter,
Thanks :D! LOL no, I will try to stay away from any mischief LOL...
Cheers
Hey Peter, you are getting better and better in the blogging stuff, you know the writing. Enjoyed reading it, I don't know if I got it all right, quite a heavy stuff, but its nice....hope all is well, and now moving on to Robert's birthday party! Anna :)
Hi Anna and a big thank you for the compliment on my writing. I really do try my best to be a good and entertaining writer!
Constructive criticism is always welcomed and never be afraid to hold back!
Take Care,
Peter
Hi Guys! Time to let the cat out of the bag! The course I sort of successfully completed was the "Swiftwater Rescue Awareness Course".
Take Care,
