Controlling your destiny come hell or high water
Controlling our destiny is one of those things and it is defined by hard work, unselfishness, diligence and patience in order to fulfil a life's dream of becoming what we so desperately want in life - for example, a career that will hopefully lead us down the yellow brick road not only for personal success but also for our family members as well.

Oh! I almost forgot one other – The Boss. A few that I know have been more than than a godsend when it comes to a certain member of my family.
Now, this may go down in the Guinness World Records book as the longest apprenticeship ever - our son finally realised his dream of becoming a licensed electrician after overcoming all sorts of obstacles for so, so many years.
Yes, just the other day we received the wonderful and it’s about time news that he had passed his final exams with flying colours that has made us and his beautiful partner in life even more proud of him.
To be continued…

Peter,
Congrats to your son! Glad to hear that your diligence and love for him have paid off.
You know when I learned I couldn't control my destiny? When my 11 year-old healthy son fought a malignancy for two years of his life, now in remission since age six. There is a nothingness, a lack of control, that hits such a low with a child that you just learn that you have to give it up to a higher power. Thus, glad to hear of your son's recent successes.
Really liked this post, Peter. Thank you for reminding me that life is pretty darn good!

Have you ever come close to fulfilling a lifelong dream only to see it ruined by the complexities of life that have been heightened by a mix of foreseen and unforeseen events?
Um Yes!
My dream has been to finish writing the book I started back in 2005. Illness, being a single mom, moving, and a slue of other issues outside of my control have prevented me from completing my project.
Fortunately, I am currently unemployed, and I say FORTUNATELY because now I will finally have THE TIME I NEED to finish what I started.
Wish me luck and send me a healthy dose of diligence!
And MOSTLY, congrats to your son for finally realizing his dream of becoming a licensed electrician!! That is terrific news!
Hi Peter :D!
Congratulations for the wonderful news: you must be super proud :D!
The thing about obstacles is: when we surpass them it feels so damn good. We feel like we are on top of the world, and victory is sweeter...all the accomplishments become sweeter.
"What obstacles have got in your way to fulfilling your dreams, and, how did you overcome them?" - many obstacles have come in my way, but I have managed to surmount them one by one (with patience) until I got what I wanted (I'd say dream, but it wouldn't be accurate). I confess I am ambitious (an ethical ambitious person, nevertheless ambitious) and I do not rest until I reach my goals.
Once again, congratulations to your son (and the family - for this is also a family accomplishment) :D!
Cheers
Hi StortellERdoc and thank you. I'm delighted your son is now in the best of health. Please give him my best!
One of our sons had a battle of his own in his first year. We were given all sorts of conditions that he might have had, but in the end it came down to a severe viral infection.
Funny thing is the only big improvement in him came when he returned home from hospital.
Yes, we can both be happy for big mercies!
Take Care,
Peter
Hi Meleah and thank you! So you've got a book in the pipeline! Any clues as to what it's about? Murder and mayhem or a romantic book perhaps!
Anyway, I wish you all the best with it. Perhaps we have another J. K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame in the making!
Wishing you good health and a healthy dose of diligence.
Take Care,
Peter
Hi Max and thank you. Yes, we are extremely pleased and proud of our son's accomplishment!
Now, the only thing left to do is to get him back home so he can start working on our renovations – of course all work is to be done for free!
What are our chances of that happening? Well, we can only live in hope can't we!
Obstacles? Aren't they a royal pain in the butt! You get over one only to be confronted with another!
Pessimistic aren't I? I think that's the difference between you and I – sometimes little and big things really get to me and I make a big deal out of it.
Where you, and my wife for that matter, treat them with the contempt they deserve and get on with it with the minimum of fuss! Oh! to be like that!
Take Care,
Peter

Congrats to your son for finally making the grade. Mine?...well, lets just say they are still working on their dreams and have overcome some major obstacles themselves....but they are never the less advancing towards their goals, albeit with a few twists and turns along the way. As a father I am duty bound to help them get back on the path if they come to me for help. And hopefully, some day, I'll be able to look at them as the proudly beaming father, while they deliver their convocation speech upon graduation at University ...lol
Anyways, an inspiring post my friend. I've always felt that the unquestionable support of loved ones and dear friends can get us through anything in life.
Take care my friend.

Hi JD! Sorry for the late reply, but it's all abuzz here with the post-kids leaving home renos! Yes, where would our children be without us - probably a lot more independent, God luv'em!
Take Care,
Peter
hi,
congratulations to your son!!!
I've got so many dreams. Obstacles? hmm, there are few, but I look at them now as my inspiration to work harder on getting my dreams come true.
Have a wonderful week-end.
Hi Mayet and thank you. It's great to see you back here. Yes, obstacles can make us or break us can't they? But as long as we stay true to ourselves and to the ones that share our lives, hopefully the obstacles will remain small enough for us to get over.
Take Care,
Peter
Peter,
Your wife is a wise woman :D!
I heard men were more impatient with obstacles than women; but I am not sure if this is true (I haven't verified it yet).
Have a great week ahead!
Cheers
Hi Max! You and my wife are both wise women. Heaven knows how she ended up with me!
Take Care,
Peter
Peter I wonder was that your dream or his, lol. You been waiting for that too, it seems like. But that is great, and congratulations to your son. It isn't easy to be electrician, I personally hated in university, even though my father is one.
On the side note, I cannot believe how Emmi is so so adorable. Anna :)
Hi Anna! No, it was all his dream. Perhaps what made up his mind for him was getting picked up everyday for work by his boss.
Now, Emmi is almost six months old and on the verge of talking according to the proud parents. Would you believe it?
Anyway, how are your blogger dramas going?
Take Care,
Peter
