Rainbow Lorikeet Pictorial

Finally, here are the pictures of the Australian Rainbow Lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus moluccanus) that I have been waiting for so long to put up here. The only reason I got so close was that I was camouflaged by my homemade bird blind: Two wheelie bins for sides, a sheet of cardboard with a spy hole and a blanket for a roof.

I used my Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd digital camera as I did with the Common Koel but this time I used the flash as I did with the Australian Garden Orb Weaver Spider.

Beautiful birds! We don't have anything near so colorful around here. Good Job!!

Hi Moonshadow and thank you. These little creatures are ferocious eaters of sunflower seeds but when the Cockatoos come they run (fly) for the hills. Cockatoos will be my next subject and should be easy to photograph as they are very photogenic.

Hey Peter, you real birder you :). Funny they didn't get scared of the flash. These are excellent photos, just like coming from the studio. The photos also reminded me my trip to Singapore, when I visited bird park there. I also got to experience the true rain forest - in few seconds I was soaking wet. Anna :)

Hi Anna and thank you. There's one thing I have to learn and that is to be able to tone down the flash. I have the manual so I'll test it out on some other birds we have around here.

I haven't been overseas but I have seen the rain forests up in Queensland - the state north of ours.

The Lorikeets look gorgeous! Apparently they weren't frightened by the flash...hey, I love the one where the three birds seem to converse between themselves :).
